One Month of Daycare Later...

It's been a big month of transition to daycare for all of us. To show our appreciation, Bennett surprised his teachers with bouquets of fresh Pike Place flowers, cards, and big hugs today. (It was hard to get a group photo with all the action in the room...) It was really fun to let them know how much we have appreciated their care, patience, and communication throughout the past month. His daily reports tend to show that he is "extremely talkative", happy, loves group buggy rides, nature walks, the infant playground maze, singing with teachers, and painting on mirrors. We are so thankful that Bennett seemed to adapt effortlessly to his new surroundings, and also relieved that I seem to be calming down a bit too! I realize now that we are lucky to be connected to a center that provides us with as much daily communication as we request, an active weekly cirriculum, monthly parent events, newsletters specific to our infant room, and just an overall sense of community.

Little Buddies

Bennett has lots of little buddies in our weekly group. Each baby is fascinated by the other and it's pretty entertaining watching them all interact. Tonight they were all trying to eat each other's hands and grab faces. We had a great time grilling out with a great crowd. We often have a guest speaker before a social hour. Tonight we learned about language development from a speech pathologist so our weekly group is always fun and educational!

So happy to be going to the park on such a gorgeous night....

We hit the Hi-Yu parade this morning, where Bennett encountered his first clan of clowns and seemed to love all the floats, music, and marching bands (maybe he will rock the sax like I did?)
The evening was spent celebrating the birthday of Bennett's little friend, Lilly.

Constellation Park

It was a chilly morning along the water as we headed to Constellation Park today, followed by a nice warm breakfast at our favorite neighborhood spot. Bennett loves being outside. He soaks up everything with such curiosity and seems to be so reflective and at ease as we stroll through the outdoors showing him the world.
Later, Bennett met his new friend, Jaeden, who is about 8 weeks his junior. One more little girlfriend to add to his list!

Baby Duty

Andrew and I were on double baby duty this morning while Liam came over to spend a few hours under our care. What sweet boys these two were together! We had lots of fun hanging out with the little ones!
We then split duties and Andrew flew solo this afternoon so I could attend a bridal shower, and I took the night shift while he hit a poker night with the guys.
Go Team!

Hampton is 9!

Hard to believe that my absolute favorite creature of all time is now 9 years old! I love this dog - with his huge drooly snout, pretty brown eyes, and the sweetest heart I have known in a canine.
Happy Birthday Hamps! Hope you liked your swim in Lake Washington!

Seward Park

We had a great morning at Seward Park and refueled after our 5k loop by going out for pizza with Uncle Casey. We had a couple visitors stop by in the afternoon too. It was a fun family day as Bennett turned 4 months old!

Summer Fest

It is West Seattle Summer Fest weekend! Every year we head down to enjoy some good food, live music, and just plain fun. West Seattle is hopping with children and parents in our same boat, so we joined some and jammed out to a Caspar Babypants concert this morning. We also had an awesome blunch from Bakery Nouveau and Andrew tried to win $10k by using a tape measure to get ping pong balls into a jar. We did not win any money, but we had a blast!

Babies & BBQ

The babies and their goofy parents met in the park for a picnic tonight - it was the perfect way to wind down on a hot summer evening.

The Fourth Festivities

Happy Fourth of July!! (aka Hampton's least favorite day of the year)
We celebrated the holiday at our place with Casey this afternoon, playing Kubb, catching some sun which seemed to immediately be followed by rain, and eating one of the two giant flag cookies I made. We stopped by Rob and Erin's later this evening, then it was off to the annual block party down our street where Bennett wore his own nametag, schmoozed with several older women (even scoring a number from a woman who wants to 'hang out'), met several nice neighbors, and where the second giant cookie was devoured. We had a great day but Hampton cannot wait for these fireworks to be over!

West Side is the Best Side

It was a West Seattle tour with Uncle Casey today. We hit the brewery for lunch, hit a new local store where over 600 beers are available to purchase, and then went to the cupcake shop for dessert. Later, Bennett got lots of attention and loved playing outside at Henry's 1st birthday party.

First Day of Daycare

Andrew had an awesome time playing Mr. Mom all week before daycare started on Thursday. Needless to say, the boys had a fun-filled few days reading, playing, and sharing lots of laughter. Although I had to work, I was lucky enough to share in their fun as they came to take me for a stroll downtown on Monday and picked me up for lunch at one of my favorite restaurants on Wednesday.
Then, the day I had been dreading had arrived - Day 1 of Daycare.
To keep it short, let's just say it was a very emotional first day for me since I am not completely sold on the whole daycare thing for our family just yet. It goes without saying that I shed some tears that morning (and for several nights prior) but all in all we agreed that the day went much better than we expected. Bennett, not to our surprise, was smiling upon arrival and throughout the day and was a hit in his room. I came back to visit during the mornings and he was always in good spirits with his infectious smile going strong.

He adapts well to most situations and is always just going with the flow in all that we do, so we were happy to see this trait carried over to his daycare introduction. His teacher gave us lots of pictures and updates throughout the day and he did great! Today he completed his first painting using his feet as a painting tool, making white clouds in a bright blue sky.

To make the first day better, I also heard relieving news that I have been approved to drop my hours to 32 each week. It looks like I will have Wednesdays off to be with my little guy and will work until about 3pm on the other four days which will also maximize my time with him. This makes me so happy!

If you get caught between the Moon and Northeast Minnie....

There is a special place in our hearts for NE Minneapolis!! This is a special tribute to that! For it was Mayslacks, in my old stomping grounds, where Andrew and I met up for a drink after the first weekend we met. We knew there was something special by then! What a cute shirt for Bennett, thanks to our friend Ryan!
